For me, this makes sense. You can calculate the age of a person with the year provided. E.g. there's a tool for Palm PDAs (called "HappyDays"), which takes the birthdays out of your address book and builds a nice view of them (sorted by birthday, the next one on the top) and enters those dates in your calendar.
Maybe one could build something similar for Notes...
